- Ursula V. Battle is a bold voice in faith-based theater- a Baltimore native, award-winning journalist, and visionary playwright whose words awaken hearts and transform lives!
- A proud graduate of Coppin State University (Magna Cum Laude) with a B.A. in English and a minor in Journalism, she later earned her Master’s Degree in Publication Design from the University of Baltimore.
- Playwright Battle also holds credentials from the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and is a graduate of Walbrook High School. Ursula is the founder and driving force behind Battle Stage Plays, a female, minority-owned company based in Baltimore, MD, dedicated to producing powerful, original gospel stage productions. Her faith-filled productions are renowned for their rich storytelling, spirited humor, captivating drama, and soul-stirring music that transcends generations and cultures.
Audiences from all walks of life find themselves laughing, crying, and ultimately changed by her message-driven theatre. Her acclaimed works include Serenity House: From Addiction to Deliverance (also released as a novel), DisChord in the Choir: Pitch Please!, My Big Phat Ghetto FABULE$$ Wedding, The Teachers’ Lounge, The Homegoing Service for a Man Named Jesus, and the soon to debut Desperate Housewives of The Bible: The Old, The Bold, & The Beautiful.
Playwright Battle’s productions continue to play to sold-out audiences across the region and beyond, blessing countless lives along the way. An award-winning journalist, she is a Staff Writer for The Baltimore Times, and a former Staff Reporter for The Baltimore AFRO-American Newspaper whose award-winning articles led to several notable honors.
She is the recipient of numerous journalistic and creative writing awards, which include the Maryland, DC Press Association and Society of Professional Journalist Award, and “The NAACP’s Thurgood Marshall Community Leadership” Award. She is a Baker Awards Finalist and was honored in 2021 by the Patapsco River (MD) Chapter of The Links as a “Valiant Women of Freedom” Honoree for her work in the Arts. Honors also include The Joe Manns Black Wall Street Award, Leah’s Book Club Award, and induction into the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland’s Hall of Fame.
She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and continues to inspire both on and off stage.
She is the mother of three children, the grandmother of three, and a woman of
unwavering faith whose favorite scripture remains her daily guide:
