Presented by Battle Stage Plays and Huber Community Life Center in observance of Holy Week, it was the return of the hit Gospel stage play, The Homegoing Service for A Man Named Jesus! A Gospel Musical Dramedy, the hit production once again was a huge success drawing attendees from all over Maryland and beyond!
Performances took place Good Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Huber Community Life Center, 5700 Loch Raven Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21239.
Written by award-winning Playwright Ursula V. Battle and Directed by highly-acclaimed director Dr. Gregory Branch, this powerful modern-day depiction tells the story of some of Jesus’ many miracles as told by those whose lives were forever changed by them.
The Disciples, The Woman at The Well, The Woman with The Issue of Blood, Mary, and Martha and Lazarus of Bethany, and others are among the unforgettable characters sharing their stories during a funeral service being held after the crucifixion at The Glorious Congregation of The Gospel of Jesus Christ Upon This Rock Church of The Redeemed Tabernacle.
The 2025 cast included Dr. Alex Stone, Pastor of Olivet Baptist Church (Peter), Leonard Stepney, Jr. (Apostle John); soloists C.C. Bowen, (The Women with The Issue of Blood); Shirlethea “LeLe” Holmes (Mary Magdalene); Will Green (Barabbas); and Randy “Fruity” Roberts (Rufus Jackson).
Tanya Brown-Iyesi returned as the hilarious usher Martha of Bethany along with her counterparts The Hype Ushers! The production also featured Baltimore mortician Carlton C. Douglass (Joseph of Arimathea), owner of the Carlton C. Douglass Funeral Home.
The powerful presentation included musical performances by the Unified Voices of Johns Hopkins Choir under the directorship of musician extraordinaire David White accompanied on the organ by the legendary Howard "Buddy" Lakins.
